Maurice And The Cliches - Self Titled [1980]

Taking a break from noise, here's some little-known new wave from Canada. The band had one Billboard Top 100 hit with "Soft Core", but a multitude of issues (constant personnel changes, management and distribution issues, and a disastrous relocation to Los Angeles just as glam rock was emerging) prevented them from ever becoming successful. They disbanded in 1987. This is their self-titled album from 1980.

Suicide Bomber - Martyr

Another alias of Calgary's Bomber, who also collaborated with Earhate as Hatebomb [download].
The lyrics concern mainly Islamic suicide bombings, unsurprisingly. They are written from the perspective of the bomber and are actually extremely dark and jarring, which is a welcome change from the usual power electronics schlock about sex and serial killers.

I can't say I like this release that much, honestly. I don't know when it was released, but I'm guessing it was a while ago. I received it at a recent live show by Bomber, which was incredibly harsh, dynamic, and brutal. This release is fairly simplistic and boring. Still, it's worth a listen.

Hatebomb - Untitled 2"

[Wall noise]
This is a collaboration between Calgary noise artists Bomber and Earhate, released through Earhate's label Total Vomit Records. I think they're all gone - they were sold at a Hatebomb live show, and I know they were all snapped up there - but message the label if you want one. This is one long, huge slab of harsh wall noise on a 2" CD. It was packaged in a jewelry case that also contained some illustrations and a bullet casing.
